You Should Know...

A worthy investment for anyone interested in Fashion. Great pictures and biographies on the most influential fashion designers of the past 100 years. Get Inspired! Available at Urban Outfitters among others.

London Calling

Hostem is a new East London Menswear Boutique dedicated to the
well-dressed male. It is also a visual feast that was masterfully prepared
by the gourmand interior design duo, Jamesplumb.

The unique mix of Bespoke tailoring and gritty every day Street Wear helps to prepare the English gentlemen for any activity.

Not only will you find superior quality brands like Casely Hayford, Damir Doma, and Ann Demeulemeester but you will also find a one-of-a-kind shopping experience that transcends the typical mundane activity of exchanging money for goods.

Losing yourself in the process is half the fun, which will not be much of a problem at Hostem.

Naoto Fukasawa ‘Siwa’ Paper Hat Collection

Innovative textiles are always on the top of my list, especially when they create impressive products like this. “Designer naoto fukasawa has created a series of hats that are made entirely out of traditional japanese washi-paper. the three pieces entitled ‘ivy cap’, ‘hat’, and ‘tyrolean hat’, are constructed from a new type of paper called ‘naoron’ developed by washi-paper manufacturer onao which withstands both moisture and weight, resulting in a lightweight material that does not tear easily.” ( Via DesignBoom )

NY Fashion Week - Street Style

Casual style with navy dress shoes is a hit. The blazer is a nice touch.

Gearing up for Fall with a flowy skirt and a chunky knit top, perfect for September!

Beautiful printed skirt with a sheer top and gold accents. Love the purse.

Lanvin Leather and Jersey Boot-Brogues

As the Fall season approaches it will soon be time to start layering up and pulling out the boots. These are a very versatile pair of boots and brogues. Great for dressing your daily look up or down. These shoes are made of a high quality leather vamp, jersey extensions that form the boot, and a suede toe cap. The fabrication is unique but the look is timeless, adding these to your closet will pay dividends in the style points category.

Gaga Owns The Night

Lady Gaga continued her shock and awe campaign on the entertainment and fashion world's tonight at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards held in Los Angeles. Gaga won a total of eight awards including Video of the Year. Whether it was the plethora of awards or her ostentacious style, there is no doubt, Gaga truly owned the night.

She arrived in an amazing Alexander McQueen creation that gleamed of gold and red. Her golden headdress added to the glitz and glamour of the ensemble and further set her apart from anyone vying for her fashion crown.

Lady Gaga strikes a pose in her gown by the late, great, Alexander McQueen. In one of her many acceptance speeches for the evening she paid tribute to the late designer and thanked him for his contribution to her cause.

...and then there was the meat dress! I don't know if I can honestly say I like it, but damn! what a dress. Created by Franc Fernandez, it truly was a sight to behold and included shoes and a hat all made of juicy flesh. Was it a jab at PETA for criticizing the meat ensemble she wore for the cover of Vogues Hommes Japan, based on Mark Ryden's artwork, or just another eccentric sartorial war cry? We may never know, but it doesn't matter anyway. Truth be told, Lady Gaga has a knack for blowing our minds every time she steps her lobster claw heels in the limelight, which is just the way we like it.

Technology is Evolving Fashion, Ask Karl

Is it just me, or does the world seem to be shrinking? Technology has seemingly made the world more accessible than ever before. Nothing ever seems out of reach... as long as you have your Iphone. So while Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook dominate our time and help us diffuse information faster than ever before, the world of high fashion is clawing desperately to keep up. Some of the fashion world have embraced Social Media while others have remained leary, but one thing is for certain, technology will continue to erase boundaries and open doors. Live streaming runway shows and runway to internet sales are becoming commonplace. Last season Burberry offered up pieces from their latest collection via the internet and now it seems Karl Lagerfeld and his signature line will follow suit, Lagerfeld announced today. (Via WWD)

Street Fashion - Polka Dot Tie

People watching is something of a hobby of mine. I often find myself sitting back with a cup of coffee and watching the hustle and bustle of the world around me. My eye's are generally glued to what people are wearing. The sartorial choices of the everyday people around me are intriguing. That oh-so-elusive concept of style that is either inherent or otherwise, usually makes itself quite apparent. I'm guessing that there are many people, like me, who enjoy people watching. Thus, the fascination with Street Fashion and its explosion onto the fashion scene over the last decade. Granted, technology has aided the growth of fast fashion but I think that more than anything we're all just a little curious about other people.

This guy is someone that I would love to have the priviledge of people watching. His style is unique, brazen, and sophisticated. There is a whole lot going on and yet it all melds like the finest blended Scotch. The navy blazer seems to be the frame for the vest, dress shirt, and tie. Yet, there are so many little touches that could easily be missed such as the club collar, the military tuck of the tie, or the intentional non-buttoning at the bottom of the vest that leaves the belt buckle available to the eye. The clothing is wonderful but the confidance to where it well, is what Street Style is all about.

"Shoes" at Sadler's Wells Theatre

Sticking with the theme's of shoes and England comes a dance production that is being held at the historic Sadler's Wells Theatre. The production aptly titled "Shoes" is composed by Richard Thomas and showcases amazing footwear from the likes of Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Louboutin, and Manolo Blahnik. There will be over 250 pairs of shoes gracing the stage in London where the show will premier this Friday. Part of the collection by Ferragamo are replica's of designs that graced the famous toes of Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe.

"Shoes" composer and writer Richard Thomas describes the production as an exploratory piece about the fetishism of shoes. Thomas further asserts that there is an inherent link between a persons favorite pair of shoes and the memories that they have of the times in and around those shoes. Thomas says that the essence of "Shoes" is "basically about joy – searching for it, finding it and losing it.”

Oh, How I Love A Nice Pair Of Shoes

These derby shoes really made my day! The good folks over at Selectism really have a knack for feeding my footwear addiction. Not only are these shoes exceptionally handsome and oh-so British, they are also cost effective. Barker is the company thoughtful enough to make a quality shoe that us everyday-folks can afford. Hats off to ya, Blokes.

Resort 2011 is Fun Fun Fun with Alice + Olivia

It seems to be the consensus for Resort 2011 is Prints, Prints, Prints, and More Prints. Miuccia Prada and Marc Jacobs showcased them in their signature and secondary lines and many others including Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen have also jumped on the bandwagon. After reviewing all of the Resort 2011 collections I realized that I really enjoyed the collection that Stacey Bendet put together for Alice + Olivia. The bright colors, play with prints, and have fun-feeling of the collection really drew me in.

Like this fun little yellow number with a black and white head wrap and some sunglasses. The look is loud but stylish and demands just the right amount of attention.

Or this lime green skirt with a black and white striped top. The yellow scarf and accessories really play up the look. If you nix the shoes I love it completely.

Finally, who doesn't love a simple black skirt paired with a printed top? Once again the accessories pull the outfit together and tell you enough about the Alice + Olivia girl while still leaving her a delightful mystery.

While I am not entirely impressed with this collection as a whole, there are enough pieces that are wearable, refreshing, and most importantly Fun! This girl looks like she knows how to have a good time and I would love to tag along for the ride.
